Starting a new blog is like beginning a new journal. You want it to look just right, set the right tone, not seem vapid or dumb. Shall I talk about the books I read? That could fill a blog because I read a lot. Should I talk about the books I read with students? That’s more teacher-y, but is pretty past tense. How shall I tag my entries so someone might stumble across my blog and actually read it? As you go forward with this blogging business, you discover how important readers and comments are. In an earlier blog I started, I felt like I was taking a huge step in deciding to put my thoughts online, but then I felt that “going public” with my thoughts would keep me accountable. But now I know that hardly anyone ever reads it - my biggest day so far was 12 reads back in January. I have invited three of my friends to read and comment on it, and they seem to have read it once each. Two of them commented and that was it. So, I anm now much less reluctant to “go public” so to speak. One can only dream of making it public, at least at first!

I read your paragraph for the week and your reference to Table Mountain caught my eye. Are you perhaps located in the Central Valley, near Fresno?

Hi Delaine,
Sorry I didn’t see this sooner. I am located in Chico, in the North Valley. Is there a Table Mountain near Fresno as well?
Lynn
